Manual Lymphatic drainage (MLD)
What is the lymphatic system, and how does massage work
The lymphatic system is part of our body’s immune system, it’s a dynamic network of lymph capillaries, vessels and nodes which also includes bone marrow, the spleen, thymus, tonsils and lymph tissue in the small intestine. It’s our body’s ‘waste disposal system’ because of its ability to flush out metabolic cellular waste and toxins from our bodies. It plays a vital role in fighting bacteria, viruses and destroying old or abnormal cells and eliminating toxins and excess fluids that our body doesn’t need.
Having a sluggish lymphatic system can cause swelling, commonly seen around the ankles, thighs, tummy area, tops of arms and face. This is where the lymphatic drainage massage can be beneficial, as it helps to speed up the removal of waste and toxins from the body.
Your lymphatic system plays a major part in keeping your body healthy. Lymphatic drainage enhances your lymphatic function, aids healthy circulation and stimulates lymphatic drainage, encouraging better immunity, improved energy and overall vitality
It uses a light and gentle rhythmic and specific technique to stimulate the lymphatic system to move fluid around the body more effectively, ensuring they don’t get clogged anywhere.
Also practicing diaphragmatic breathing not only aids relaxation but increases oxygen circulation throughout the body and aids lymphatic flow.
Please note - I do not offer post-surgery or lymphedema MLD.
